In November 2004, Mitch won Australia's first national poetry slam, The Deep End National Poetry Slam. Then he was invited to the 2005 World Poetry Slampionships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where he competed against other national poetry slam champions from all over the world and finished in 5th place, smiling.
