Memoir of Moments (#6): She said “Yes”!

One of the moments that made my life, and is still making my life, is the moment I proposed marriage to the woman of my dreams. Beautiful, funny, smart, and kind, I still don’t know how I got so lucky to meet her while she was single and somehow convince her to marry me. I planned a picnic and brought takeout Chinese food to the beach. It had to be Chinese takeout because I had the fortune cookie factory put the ring in a fortune cookie. We found a nice spot on the sand dunes that overlooked the ocean and sat down. I read her a poem I wrote for her, and then we had lunch and I had brought some champagne because we were celebrating 6 months of dating. When we got to the fortune cookies, she found her ring, I proposed and she said yes.

As luck would have it, the whole episode was caught on camera by surf cams. They used to be just live cams but they had just started showing previous days’ footage and so I checked when I got home and sure enough, there we were, barely in the frame and then it moved away to show another part of the beach. Very lucky.

That day made my life. The biggest if, when, or maybe in my life had just become an excited YES.
