Money 101 (#6): Make as much money as you can.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a financial advisor and this should not be taken to be financial advice. You should consult a financial professional for advice. I am a financial amateur. These are my thoughts and opinions on money that I have recorded here for my children, with the hope that my thoughts might help them. They are responsible for the results of the advice they choose to follow. Always worth keeping in mind: Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Your mileage may vary. The map is not the territory. Keep your eyes open. Smell it before you take a bite.

To my children:

They say the best defense is a good offense. Some say you can’t save your way to riches. I don’t know if that’s true, but the best way to have more money to save is to earn more money. So when you’re looking at jobs, look for the one that pays the most. (Obviously, there are some constraints on that, don’t become a crook or otherwise sell your soul.) If you’re a bartender, try to get a job at a fancy hotel where maybe they tip better than the dive bar where you currently work. Or look into working private events. Maybe you could teach people how to make their own drinks and they might be willing to pay for that. You could teach a bartending course online. If you think you could make more money doing something else besides bartending, then look into that. You get the idea.

Bottom Line: Find the option that pays the best for your skills and desires.
