This past weekend we went to a restaurant to celebrate my father-in-law’s and brother-in-law’s birthdays. My wife made a reservation 3 weeks in advance to ensure that we could sit at an outdoor table where we would feel safer given the COVID-19 circumstances. However, when we arrived at the restaurant, we were told that it would be an hour and a half wait to sit outside but that we could sit inside if we wanted to. We started to sit inside but as my wife filled me in on everything, I decided to go talk to the hostess and see if we could get what we were promised. We wouldn’t have made a reservation there if we had known we’d be sitting inside and we didn’t feel safe sitting inside that restaurant. Eventually, the hostess said she would try her best, and then a minute later she said she could seat us outdoors at a table whose party had just paid when the party had left and the table was cleaned. We enjoyed our meal outside and we all breathed easier. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you were promised, or to fight for what you deserve. If you don’t do it, then it might not happen.
