Today we were at a beach where some sizable waves were breaking right on the shore. A man was collecting rocks and didn’t realize how big and powerful the waves were. A wave came and knocked him over and he had trouble getting up before the next wave came, so my friend and I went over to him to help him up before he got hit by any more waves. He was grateful and the lifeguard thanked us too because we got there before he could get there. The man who got knocked over needed taking care of that day, and I was surprised to see him 5 minutes later in the same spot doing the same thing—picking up rocks and not keeping an eye on the ocean.
If you are lucky enough to get second chances, treat them differently than the first chance that you missed. And remember that at some point, you might not get any more chances.
