Today I went for a swim and the water felt warm, until I went into the hot tub and then returned to the pool. Then the pool felt quite chilly. The same temperature of water will feel different depending on where you just came from.
That’s true of a lot of other things too. Free lunch once a week is great compared to having to pay for your lunch every day. Until you meet someone who works at a company where they get free lunch 2 days a week, which is amazing until you meet someone whose company provides free lunch everyday. And it doesn’t get any better than that, of course, until it does. Your daily free lunch is great until you hear about the company who hired Michelin star chefs to prepare the daily free meals. It goes on and on.
But it’s helpful to go the other way too. The quickest way to make the cool air on a gray day at the beach feel warmer is to jump into the frigid ocean and then towel off.
