I came across this YouTube video of Shaheen Jafargholi, a young Welsh boy, auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent. He starts to sing Valerie by Amy Winehouse and sings it for about 15 seconds before host Simon Cowell cuts him off and asks him to stop. He tells him, “You got this really wrong.” Simon continues, though, and asks the boy, “What do you sing apart from that?” The boy says, “Who’s Loving You by Michael Jackson.”
“Do you want to give that a go?” Simon asks. The boy says, “Okay.” He then proceeds to nail it, gaining a standing ovation from all three judges, including Simon.
What a shame it would have been if that boy wasn’t asked to sing a different song.
The next time you feel like you can’t sing, but you like singing, try singing a different song.
