I forgot to bring a mask with me when I went grocery shopping today and so I fashioned a face covering out of my hooded sweatshirt. I zipped it up part way, and put it on backwards by sticking my head through the opening with the hood in front of my face instead of behind it. Then I drew the drawstrings tight around my face above my nose and tied a knot in the back. When I got to the front of the line, I was told, “That sweatshirt isn’t going to work.” I started to protest but they offered me a disposable mask so I stopped protesting and wore their mask. But what did she mean that it wouldn’t work? I think it probably blocked more air than the mask that they gave me. But someone decided that “sweatshirts are unacceptable”. Policies are sometimes strange. And to me, this one seemed to have lost the plot. It was just unfounded sweatshirtism. Don’t be sweatshirtist.
