The sound of sprinklers

Sometimes you focus your attention somewhere and sometimes something grabs your attention and focuses it upon itself.

The sound of sprinklers woke me up this morning and while I tried to pretend that it was a white noise that I could sleep through, I was mostly fooling myself. Which is to say that I wasn’t fooling anyone at all. My ears heard the sprinklers and couldn’t go back to sleep.

How many other things are like this? Why would I stubbornly ignore what is obviously eating up my attention? Why not just address the situation? Why ignore it? It’s not going to go away by itself.
