Once we stayed at a guesthouse and after a couple of days there I said to my wife, “Too bad the water tastes funny,” and then she said, “What do you mean? It tastes fine.” And then I tasted water from her cup and it did taste fine. It turns out that it was just the set of cups that I had been drinking from that were making the good water taste funny. I’ve had that happen to me at bars with beer sometimes tasting soapy or smelling soapy and having a soapy aftertaste because of the particular glass that it’s served in. Moral of the story: Check all the variables. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Look for all the links, and check them all. And if it seems like the water could taste better, then it probably can.
