Things I Learned from My Mother (#1): The Importance of Family

When my younger sister was born, my mother bought me a set of markers and told me that they were from my baby sister, so that I would like her and we would get along. It worked. I like her and we get along.

We got together with our extended family at every holiday throughout the year and many years this meant going from visiting my mom’s side of our extended family to visiting my dad’s side of our extended family.

She drove me to all my soccer games. There were a lot.

These examples don’t give justice to how she taught the lesson but I’m grateful for the lesson, and for having a family that was kind and loving enough that I never thought to question the lesson.
