Some streets in San Francisco are numbered, which makes it easy to navigate. You know that if you’re on 24th Avenue, then you’re in between 23rd Avenue and 25th Avenue, and that you’re a long ways from 48th Avenue. Other streets are in alphabetical order, like streets that begin with Q, R, S, and T (Quintara, Rivera, Santiago, and Taraval), so you know that Pacheco is after Ortega. There are fewer than a dozen meeting rooms on the 16th floor of the office building where I work and I’ve worked there for over a year now but I still have no idea which rooms are where because there’s no order to the names: Rocketeer, Fashion Designer, Yoga Instructor.
If you want a system to be easy to navigate, add some order to make it navigable. I’ve already memorized the order of letters and numbers, why make me memorize something else?
