“A dragon lives forever, but not so little girls and boys. Painted wings and giants’ rings make way for other toys.” —Peter Yarrow and Lenny Lipton
I was singing Puff the Magic from a book to my 2-year-old daughter this morning and I was struck by these lines. Little girls and boys don’t live forever. They die and become medium-sized girls and boys, who then die and become big girls and boys. My 2-year-old son became a 3-year-old and then a 4-year-old, and now that 2-year-old is gone forever. It is as they say: You can’t step in the same river twice. For better or worse, it’s all water under the bridge. This means you’re dead already. The breath you took when you started reading this paragraph came and went and is now gone forever.
Today’s your chance. Go for it.
