Don’t go alone. You don’t know what you don’t know.

There was a guy who went rock climbing by himself and he had to cut off his hand to survive because he didn’t go with a friend or tell anyone exactly where he was going. A boulder that he was climbing on shifted and pinned his hand against the canyon wall. He was stuck until he cut off his hand. Some mistakes are bigger than, “Oops” and you can’t always see them coming.
And who knows what you don’t know about?

This year, I learned about tree wells, which are created in snowy conditions when a tree’s branches prevents snow from falling densely around the base of the tree. From the surface, the snow looks just like the snow around it, but if you get too close, you’ll fall into the well around the tree. If you’re skiing alone, this can be a very big problem. Especially if you fall in head first. No one plans of falling into a tree well head first. Go with a friend.
