I had been running regularly, training for a marathon, when I decided to run the first part of the marathon course one day as part of my preparation. It had rained the day before and I came to a spot in the road that was flooded with a huge puddle, one that was too large to step over or jump over and there was no way around it on the side either. I had to walk through the puddle and I got my shoes and socks soaking wet. The idea of running 20+ miles in soggy shoes and socks on the marathon day was not appealing. What would I do if it rained on the marathon day, or the day before, and this huge puddle was here?
I decided that I would take off my shoes and socks, walk through barefoot, and then put on my socks and shoes again after. Not a huge problem. Not a brilliant solution. The bigger problem was that I hadn’t thought about rain yet. And this while living in Hawaii, where it rains often.
What will you do when it rains?
